For decades, smart growth policy, the movement of New Urbanism and other policies have tried to steer cities away from the high cost of sprawl and car ownership.
The pandemic
has accelerated the trend toward creating more pedestrian and bike space.
The goal is
to ensure each neighborhood has open/park/recreation space and greening
streetscapes and more to create a healthier environment that fights obesity and
other diseases contributed to by car-dominated lifestyles.
