AVILA SPAIN HAS CREATED WHEELCHAIR ACCESS TO ITS MEDIEVAL WALLS

WHAT’S YOUR MODERN CITY’S EXCUSE FOR FAILING TO REMOVE BARRIERS TO MOBILITY AND ACCESS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES?

High praise to Avila Spain for creating ramped access to an area with benches & great views of the famous city walls.

The Walls are ancient, but access for people with disabilities is a priority.

AVILA SPAIN HAS CREATED WHEELCHAIR ACCESS TO ITS MEDIEVAL WALLS

WHAT’S YOUR MODERN CITY’S EXCUSE FOR FAILING TO REMOVE BARRIERS TO MOBILITY AND ACCESS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES?

For years, the ancient city of Avila Spain has prided itself on expanding access for people with disabilities.

Because Ávila is built on a steep hill, the best way to reach the accessible portion of the Medieval walls is arriving by car or an adapted taxi. Exiting directly to the Puerta del Puente is recommended to avoid steep inclines from the upper city center.

WHAT’S YOUR MODERN CITY’S EXCUSE FOR FAILING TO REMOVE BARRIERS TO MOBILITY AND ACCESS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES?

The ancient city of Avila Spain has been a pioneer in accessible tourism.

On top of the ancient defensive walls, the accessible pathway is mostly flat with some cobblestones.

The ancient city of Avila Spain has long been at the vanguard of accessible tourism.

The Avila walls visitor reception area is connected by an accessible route and has manual wheelchairs available to borrow.

The ancient city of Avila Spain has been a pioneer in accessible tourism.

Once at the top of some of the best preserved city walls in Europe, disabled visitors can enjoy a flat, 100-meter stretch of the battlement walk.

COLOR BOTANICO PALERMO SOHO

PERFECT APARTHOTEL FOR A LONG STAY IN BA'S BEST NEIGHBORHOOD

Color Botanico is a 9.8 out of 10 -- one of my highest ever ratings.

I almost booked a similar sized apartment in MicroCentro.

While that area has a lot of famous spots and places the tourists go -- it is creepy after dark.

Palermo SOHO is vibrant 24-7.

A few blocks in either direction and it would have been noisy.

But this is a quiet, mostly residential street.

Lots of buses nearby as well, to make it easy to visit other parts of the city.

Two people could live in this unit for 2 weeks (4 with 2 bed configuration) and not feel crowded.

COLOR BOTANICO PALERMO SOHO

PERFECT APARTHOTEL FOR A LONG STAY IN BA'S BEST NEIGHBORHOOD

Color Botanico ApartHotel Palermo’s unit provides lots of space to stretch out in.

There are plenty of racks to dry clothes washed in the sink, to allow for light packing.

Check in is after 3, but my flight arrived at 4 a.m.

They got me in my room a little after 10 a.m., which was great.

It is an apartment hotel, meaning it does not have an onsite restaurant, large lobby or those kinds of offerings.

There always is one person at the front desk to troubleshoot if you have an issue.

It is very secure -- they give you a code to get into the lobby.

Great working elevator.

COLOR BOTANICO PALERMO SOHO

PERFECT APARTHOTEL FOR A LONG STAY IN BA'S BEST NEIGHBORHOOD

Color Botanico ApartHotel Palermo’s balcony was great for breakfast (a half dozen grocery stores are less than 10 minutes walk from unit.)

While not presenting a gorgeous view, the courtyard-facing balcony was a great spot for end of day gelato (huge freezer in unit kept it ready for consuming) or malbec (really good less than $10 USD bottles at shops nearby).

I slept was well as I've ever slept -- and I'm a light and fussy sleeper on the road.

COLOR BOTANICO PALERMO SOHO

PERFECT APARTHOTEL FOR A LONG STAY IN BA'S BEST NEIGHBORHOOD

Color Botanico ApartHotel Palermo SOHO has outstanding full apartment amenities.

Twice, I overindulged at nearby restaurants – so I brought home the leftovers and had a great meal and saved money.

You can't do that in a tiny hotel room.

COLOR BOTANICO PALERMO SOHO

PERFECT APARTHOTEL FOR A LONG STAY IN BA'S BEST NEIGHBORHOOD

Color Botanico ApartHotel Palermo SOHO is in a great location.

World class gelato, dining (casual and fine), shops, galleries, activities – are all minutes away by foot.

The unit is more than double the size of a standard hotel room – it features a full kitchen that's nicer than what I have in my house.

Huge bed with comfy mattress, normal size pillows, great AC and extra sheets upon request.

COLOR BOTANICO PALERMO SOHO

PERFECT APARTHOTEL FOR A LONG STAY IN BA'S BEST NEIGHBORHOOD

Color Botanico is in an absolutely perfect location in Palermo SOHO.

It is located within crawling distance to all the fun, but quiet at night (I did request a room not facing the street, so that helped).

One of world's best restaurants is two doors down.

Huge parks are 15-20 minute walk north.

The subway is 10-12 minute walk north.

FIRENZE LOFTS LAURELES MEDELLIN ANTIOQUIA COLOMBIA

PERFECT BOUTIQUE HOTEL WITH FULL KITCHEN NEAR TRANSIT

My suggestions on things to do while staying at Firenze Lofts:

Take a waterfall tour of nearby Barbosa.

Ride a bus from Terminal Norte to the upscale colonial town of Retiro -- then catch a ride to Tequendamita waterfall.

Walk to all the restaurants and dessert shops of Premier Parque Laureles and Segundo Parque Laureles.

Go to the historic center for the world class Museo Antioquia traditional art museum.

Check out Botero Plaza outside it.

Walk among the thousands of street vendors and mom and pop clothing shops.

Catch live music at El Club Del Jazz -- Colombia's only jazz club.

Take a rideshare home, as the emerging area is sketchy after dark.

Eat bandeja paisa at Hacienda Junin downtown.

Support homeless cats with a gourmet pizza at Gatelier near the Floresta Metro Train station.

FIRENZE LOFTS LAURELES MEDELLIN ANTIOQUIA COLOMBIA

PERFECT BOUTIQUE HOTEL WITH FULL KITCHEN NEAR TRANSIT

Firenze Lofts’ free breakfast is at a property a block away.

As it is served 7:30 a.m.-10 a.m., I was unable to take my meal there due to travel plans at dawn.

I contacted the property through WhatsApp, and it had a breakfast meal tucked into my room’s full-sized fridge the night before.

When I rose well before 6 a.m., I could re-heat it on the stove or in the microwave, along with the juice from the restaurant and coffee in the room.

The staff speaks limited English (I speak pretty good Spanish) so the WhatsApp was a perfect communications means, because staff could feed my requests and questions into a translate app.

All of my requests, including no maid service, were honored.

I walked to a half dozen excellent restaurants in the wonderful and safe Laureles neighborhood.

FIRENZE LOFTS LAURELES MEDELLIN ANTIOQUIA COLOMBIA

PERFECT BOUTIQUE HOTEL WITH FULL KITCHEN NEAR TRANSIT

Firenze Lofts is in Laureles -- an upper middle class area that is super flat and walkable -- compared to other areas of hilly Medellin.

They always try to steer anglos to Poblado.

I think this location is 10 times nicer and more authentic.

I loved walking less than 15 minutes to the inexpensive elevated Metro train.

One electronic card can be used for the trains, trams, gondola cars to the upper hills and endless city buses.

Firenze Lofts is in a green, leafy area next to a small waterway.

The staff is amazing at this hotel.

I asked quite a few questions before I arrived – including my standard request of getting a room farthest from the elevator (because people are noisy coming off of them, even at upscale properties) and it was honored.

FIRENZE LOFTS LAURELES MEDELLIN ANTIOQUIA COLOMBIA

PERFECT BOUTIQUE HOTEL WITH FULL KITCHEN NEAR TRANSIT

Firenze Lofts’ only small drawback is the unit available when I booked comes with two twin beds -- and they cannot bring in a full-sized bed.

As I travel solo, I am used to a king or queen bed -- not a pair of twins. A twin bed is somewhat small for a grown-up.

But the property more than made up for it with a well-equipped room with tons of outlets, lighting options and a powerful AC unit.

FIRENZE LOFTS LAURELES MEDELLIN ANTIOQUIA COLOMBIA

PERFECT BOUTIQUE HOTEL WITH FULL KITCHEN NEAR TRANSIT

The Firenze Lofts kitchen is bigger and more modern than what I have in my full-sized house.

Same goes for the bathroom -- clean, modern, spacious with plenty of hot water in the big shower.

The elevator works fine and I never heard any noise from guests.

The unit comes with a large, private balcony.

FIRENZE LOFTS LAURELES MEDELLIN ANTIOQUIA COLOMBIA

PERFECT BOUTIQUE HOTEL WITH FULL KITCHEN NEAR TRANSIT

Firenze Lofts is exactly what I want in a property -- small enough to get personal service, but large enough to a super professional staff.

It is one of the greatest price points for quality returned -- that I have ever experienced.

The units are the size of a studio apartment.

The staff is on duty 24 hours and each team member works hard to ensure that you have a tranquil and comfortable stay.

APARTHOTEL ADAGIO ACCESS PARIS REUILLY 2019 REVIEW -- Part 10

GOOD LOCATION AND PRICE POINT – BUT DESPERATELY NEEDS TO INVEST IN KEEPING ELEVATORS AND OTHER ESSENTIALS REPAIRED
Failing to freshen sheets on the sofa bed -- despite request a month in advance – is poor service.

Faulty curtains and door that would not close...there is much room for improvement.
I honestly want half of what I paid refunded.

I booked, for my 30th wedding anniversary with my wife who uses a wheelchair for mobility while managing pain, based on a pair of modern, fully-functioning elevators.

I only got half of what I booked.

When a person with a disability dreads not having 2 elevators, it negatively impacts their trip.

Bottom line, if you pre-order 2 boards of charcuterie and they bring out 1 -- you get half your money back.

We made a full faith, months before arrival full payment for 2 elevators (notes with the hotel manager underscored this). We got 1.

Because of that, and the other listed negative issues, I am seeking a 50 percent refund.

APARTHOTEL ADAGIO ACCESS PARIS REUILLY 2019 REVIEW -- Part 9

GOOD LOCATION AND PRICE POINT – BUT DESPERATELY NEEDS TO INVEST IN KEEPING ELEVATORS AND OTHER ESSENTIALS REPAIRED
So I am divided. I like the manager as a person and professional.

I love the lobby, redone from my previous stay, complete with the kitchen, scooter and other useful items for free borrowing.

Plus the once Spartan as a dorm, now warm lobby has bottled water, sodas, snacks and more for sale at reasonable prices.

But nothing worthy of the Accor brand can go two weeks with one of the two elevators broken down....and the large part of one day with none working.

The dropped ball on wakeup call and no housekeeping requested was unworthy of the Accor parent brand.

This is sad, because after my September 2018 stay, I gave the property a 10 out of 10 review on booking.com -- the service I used to reserve the Aparthotel Reuilly.

I was embarrassed, in front of my wife, for the property's level of service dropping so much when I booked a larger room for our two-week stay.

This deserves compensation.
