SOME SAY THAT THE EMOTION OF SAUDADE IS ABOUT THE LOVE THAT REMAINS AFTER SOMEONE OR SOMETHING YOU LOVE DEEPLY HAS GONE

BUT FEELING OR HAVING SAUDADE IS ABOUT SO MUCH MORE

Check out the trailer for the Saudades book.

https://vimeo.com/1005984497?share=copy

I'm honored to be among the elite artists in this wondrous anthology.

Book launch in Miami Oct. 4 at Books and Books.

Saudades -- a global collaboration -- features the work of 28 multimedia artists representing 12 countries.

Through poetry, short stories, song lyrics, art, and fine art photography, they join lead author/artist Amy Serrano to undertake the exploration of the beautiful complexity of this word that may be for an ardent desire, a deep seated longing, a bittersweet nostalgia, a haunting melancholy, a mysterious incompleteness, a desperate yearning, a poignant sadness, an elusive wish, an irreplaceable loss, a pervasive sense of missingness, and other nuances unraveled in the book.

Though the word saudade is untranslatable into English, the experience of this emotion is universal.

Pre-sale copies will be in the Art/Anthology section of legendary independent bookseller.

Statement from Editor/Chief Contributor/Siren Amy Serrano:

On behalf of all participating artists, I am so proud to share this beautiful book with you!

After living with the word Saudade for about 5 years now, exploring it, understanding it, feeling it, living it, listening to music about it, and writing about it through the prism of my own experiences, in the end the word is really about LOVE.

Love lost, Love yearned for, Love that remains, Love of a place, Love of the self you wished you had become and/or still hope to recover, and the convergence of many of these aspects of saudade through the element of Time, time, TIME

The word saudade, in its plural form “Saudades” spoke to me deeply and I believe this emotion, this feeling may also speak to you, it is universal…

Buy the book in person or order it today from Books & Books

Then come meet the artists during the official book release on October 4 also @Books&Books.

We will have red wine and red roses for you along with a few other surprises and we will sign your copy!

PROUD TO BE PART OF THE SAUDADES

 Poetry/ Photography/ Short Stories/ Painting/ Song Lyrics Anthology

The book is titled: SAUDADES Anthological Contemplations on Persons, Places, Identity, and Time.

It will feature the work of artists that originate from nine countries including Brazil, Cuba, England, Iran, Mexico, the Netherlands, Peru, Spain and the United States.

I am indebted to my friend and colleague – the immensely talented filmmaker/artist/creative force Amy Serrano, who is leading this project.

There will be multimedia events – perhaps around the nation and overseas – to come.

Though I have certainly experienced saudade and a great amount of my overseas photography portrays aspects of it, I confess I did not know the word until the brilliant and multicultural Amy Serrano posted a call for artists that explained the word.

I borrow from her background information:

In English, saudade is often explained as a word, impossible to translate, yet quantifiable as an emotion that encompasses a wholly relatable configuration of bittersweet emotions.

These involve a distinct strain of profound melancholic yearnings that may be for a person, a place, an identity, or a time that has gone, and may never return.

Saudade is also a word for a deep-seated longing about an idealized experience that has not yet happened, and perhaps never will.

Aspects of saudade may include one or more these emotions: a profound sense of longing for a lost love or the homeland, bittersweet nostalgia, deep loss, a sense of "missingness,' dynamic regret, a gaping hole, transcendent emptiness, mysterious incompleteness, poignant sadness, an elusive wish, a singular absence, having "the blues," an ardent wistfulness, a haunting emptiness, a desperate yearning, and/or indolent dreaming.

SAUDADES

ANTHOLOGICAL CONTEMPLATIONS ON THE SAUDADE
OF PERSONS, PLACES AND TIME

So proud to be one of the artists included in the Saudades Project.

Thanks to Amy Serrano of Siren for putting so much of her creative energy into this book.

I can only hope that a gallery in Miami could host an exhibit of the works displayed in the upcoming book.
