CELEBRATING MORE THAN 325,000 READERS

THIS BLOG IS PART OF OUR PRO-BONO EFFORT TO IMPROVE UNIVERSAL DESIGN, INCLUSIVE MOBILITY AND PLANNING FOR ALL

Long before Diversity, Equity and Inclusion became a popular phrase – we were writing daily about DEI+A (the A for accessibility, as in access for all).

We have published more than 1,000 professional articles on Universal Design, Inclusive Mobility and planning that serves all – including people with disabilities.

Our work has appeared in Planning Magazine, On Common Ground, Strong Towns and hundreds of leading newspapers, websites and other publications.

For a decade, we have posted daily to this free blog.

More than 3,000 posts have shared ideas for urban design, planning, architecture, engineering, landscape architecture, sustainability and related disciplines to be more inclusive to those who use wheelchairs for mobility.

We have shared thousands of original images taken in our travels through North, South and Central America as well as Europe, Africa and Asia.

The humble blog – we once were proud to share with friends and colleagues that a grand total of 15,000 people had read us – has now been viewed by more than 325,000 unique visitors.

That means we soon will have a readership equal to the entire population of New Orleans – one of our favorite sense of place cities.

The amount of text in these blogs, if published as compilations, would fill more than four novel-length books.

This blog is part of our commitment, since turning 55, to dedicating 20 percent of our working hours to producing award-winning written and visual content that focuses on diversity, equity, inclusion + accessibility.

THANKS TO THE NEARLY QUARTER OF A MILLION UNIQUE VISITORS

The name of the blog is Urban Travel, Sustainability and Accessibility.

Certainly, its 2,700 published posts have covered urban design, world travel, resiliency strategies and the fight for more universal design and inclusive mobility for people with disabilities.

But the title could just as easily be: 100+ words of daily thoughts on inclusion and diversity.

In our world, people of all colors and physical abilities are at the center of the table.

We believe the best art, science and community is created by diverse representation of backgrounds, belief systems and faiths (and/or the right to practice no organized religion.)

We travel the globe to learn more about the people who walk it.

TODAY WE CELEBRATE OUR 175,000 VISITOR TO THIS BLOG

Before this month ends, we will have posted more than 2,000 articles - all illustrated with vivid images.

More than 90 percent of the photos -- like these in our hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, were taken by Steve Wright with his various Nikon digital SLRs.

These images show off Cleveland's amazing cultural amenities, such as the Natural History Museum (top) with Heidi Johnson-Wright, Steve's wife of 30 years.

Quite a bit has happened since our last readership milestone.

On June 1, we made our final mortgage payment on our historic house in Little Havana.

One June 10, I returned from the better part of a month in Turkey -- from my beloved Istanbul to the Bulgarian border to deep central Anatolia.

On June 11, I celebrated my 30th wedding anniversary with Heidi.

About the same time this blog will observe 200,000 unique visitors, our house near famous Calle Ocho will turn 100.

We hope you enjoy the photos -- I have posted well more than 1,000 of my original images from around the globe.

We know you enjoy the words -- my cumulative writings would fill more than four full-length books.

WE BLOG DAILY TO SHARE WORDS AND IMAGES
OF THE DIVERSE BUILT ENVIRONMENT

Today marks when more than 135,000 unique visitors have clicked on our blog.

We have readers from more than 100 nations.

We have made more than 1,500 posts.

More than 2,000 original images have been posted.

The total text would fill about four books.

We like to challenge and provoke -- especially when it comes to the civil rights of all people, especially people with disabilities.

These images are taken on the grounds of the Eyup Sultan Mosque in Istanbul near the Golden Horn.

Istanbul has a love affair with its free-roaming cats.

This boy lovingly picked up a young cat and stroked it, held it, loved it and checked on its well-being.

The circulation of this blog has equaled that of the last daily newspaper I worked at.

Well, that's a bit of marketing, as my readership is a total of more than 130,00 unique visitors of the years.

The big city newspaper's readership is daily -- but it's the same readers each day.

So in terms of total exposure to different minds, we're equal.

And my blog is read worldwide.

The vast majority of the newspaper's subscribers and readers are only in Ohio.

Whenever the blog meets some amazing milestone -- we also have now posted more than 1,500 stories -- we like to give our followers a treat.

The total word count for all those posts, would fill more than 4 average-sized nonfiction books.

Nearly 1,000 original images, shot by yours truly around the globe, have also been posted.
