COLLABORATION IN ACTION: WYNWOOD NRD-1

PLUS URBIA DESIGN'S JUAN MULLERAT WILL JOIN OTHER EXPERTS TO TELL THE STORY OF THE AMERICAN PLANNING ASSOCIATION AWARD-WINNING WYNWOOD NEIGHBORHOOD REVITALIZATION DISTRICT DURING NOVEMBER 20 EVENT IN WYNWOOD.  SEE THE FLYER:

JUAN MULLERAT (Assoc. AIA, APA, NCI, CNU) is a designer at Plusurbia Design with over 15 years of experience in urban and architectural design with awards and published works in both urban design and architecture. Mullerat excels at leading public workshops that have resulted in award-winning plans and projects at a variety of scales.

Mullerat is a Professor of Architecture at the University of Miami and has lectured in numerous universities. His work strives to create and capture the essence of places that transcend trends and value culture. It is Mullerat’s belief that a society can be understood by the nature of its public spaces.

"It is in our shared spaces where our cultural DNA is shaped, and our collective identity evolves; it is in those places where we become part of something larger than ourselves. By creating them and capturing the life within them, we induce and become witnesses of our evolution as people."

WYNWOOD: FROM GARMENT DISTRICT TO 24/7 NEIGHBORHOOD

MEMORABLE PLACES SESSION AT 2015 FLORIDA APA ANNUAL CONFERENCE
Wynwood, Miami’s former garment district, has become a globally-recognized destination for art, food, and one of Miami’s most desirable areas for creative industry.

However, the neighborhood’s evolution has been slowed by existing land development regulations. After commissioning a master plan, the Wynwood business Improvement District and the City’s Planning Department have put in motion the Wynwood Neighborhood Revitalization District, an overlay zoning district designed to incentivize redevelopment while retaining Wynwood’s unique industrial chic character and mural arts component.

This Session highlights the collaborative planning process between stakeholders and the innovative tools used to achieve planning goals and objectives.

Presenters: Steve Wernick, Esq.; David I. Polinsky, Ph.D; Juan Mullerat, AIA Assoc., APA, CNU
