Jose Saramago’s The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis.
FÁBRICA DE CERÂMICA VIÚVA LAMEGO
The Viúva Lamego Ceramics Factory was founded in 1849 by António da Costa Lamego.

Regrettably,
some depict people in stereotypical, not appropriate images.

Tell us Paris has
anything more beautiful, human scaled or enchanting than this.
THE COOLEST NEIGHBORHOOD IN THE WORLD
Arroios, Lisbon, in Portugal was recently named the coolest neighborhood in the world by Time Out.
The small parish is a hub for art, restaurants and design.
MOURARIA LISBOA
It would not be Lisbon without tons of laundry draped over small balconies, drying over tiled facades in 300 days of sunshine per year.
This is Rua do Benformoso in Mouraria

UNIVERSAL
DESIGN -- BLESSED BY THE HEAVENS
I’ve always said Universal Design is sustainable, durable, flexible and valuable.
Here, at
Museu Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon Portugal, the heavens light the way to the
ramp of access for all.
BUT FEELING OR HAVING SAUDADE IS ABOUT SO MUCH MORE
Check out the trailer for the Saudades book.

I'm honored
to be among the elite artists in this wondrous anthology.
Book launch
in Miami Oct. 4 at Books and Books.
Saudades -- a global collaboration --
features the work of 28 multimedia artists representing 12 countries.
Through
poetry, short stories, song lyrics, art, and fine art photography, they join lead
author/artist Amy Serrano to undertake the exploration of the beautiful
complexity of this word that may be for an ardent desire, a deep seated
longing, a bittersweet nostalgia, a haunting melancholy, a mysterious
incompleteness, a desperate yearning, a poignant sadness, an elusive wish, an
irreplaceable loss, a pervasive sense of missingness, and other nuances
unraveled in the book.
Though the
word saudade is untranslatable into English, the experience of this emotion is
universal.
LARGO DA GRAÇA
Largo da Graça is far from famous.
But this little hilltop oasis near Lisbon's highest point is one of my favorite town squares on earth.
Urban Squares has a nice video + write up about it.
ESTRELA STROLL
Long stroll
through Estrela.
Love this
beautiful working class Lisbon neighborhood filled with parks, churches and
fabulous azulejos on its buildings.
All served
by the historic 28E tram.
ELEVADOR DA GLÓRIA
It connects the Pombaline downtown with Bairro Alto.
CITY OF SEVEN HILLS
Lisbon is so hilly that when I walked 13 miles per day, I felt like I was getting 20 miles worth of workout.
The inclines justify outdoor escalators. But to my
engineering friends — how do they not break down in rain?
