REZIDENCE OSTROVNI PRAGUE CZECH REPUBLIC

FULL APARTMENT IS A TOP 10 VALUE IN THE GOLDEN CITY

Despite the AC issue, Rezidence Ostrovni has outstanding staff – they are onsite roughly 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Lenka, my point person -- answered my questions probably a dozen times via messaging before my arrival -- putting my nerves at ease.

It's a beautiful historic building modernized inside with an elevator (but not wheelchair accessible because there are steps to the lobby then elevator.

The mattress is very firm.

There is plenty of nice hot water.

The world famous Reduta Jazz club and gorgeous National Theater are super close by.

REZIDENCE OSTROVNI PRAGUE CZECH REPUBLIC

FULL APARTMENT IS A TOP 10 VALUE IN THE GOLDEN CITY

Rezidence Ostrovni would get a 10 out of 10, but the air conditioning wasn't working.

They seal the AC at 22 celsius, it cannot go below that.

There is a temp gauge below the AC setting.

It showed 25.7 C (nearly 80 F) the first two nights and I barely got any sleep because of the heat and stuffiness.

The AC came on, but only the fan – no cooling

It took a few days for a repair person – who could not fix the problem.

Ultimately, I was moved to a larger apartment with fully working AC.

The upgrade was nice.

The unit with great AC was big enough to live in year round.

REZIDENCE OSTROVNI PRAGUE CZECH REPUBLIC

FULL APARTMENT IS A TOP 10 VALUE IN THE GOLDEN CITY

Rezidence Ostrovni’s location is perfect.

It is footsteps from Prague's outstanding trams.

The full apartment is not far from a subway station.

There are zillions of places to eat and shop nearby and they give you a guide to some locals' faves.

Old Town and most everything you'd want to see is within walking distance.

The fabulous Vlata River – with hundreds of vantage points for great photography -- is footsteps away.

The apartment is spacious, quiet (in a town known for late night noise and partying) and the kitchen is well equipped.

Having a washing machine is great.

PARIS METROPOLITAIN

TIMELESS BEAUTY CREATED BY HECTOR GUIMARD

Nothing says Paris and Art Nouveau quite like the stylized Metropolitain entrance signs.

Architect Hector Guimard designed the first ones in the early 20th century.

The unsung Guimard also designed a number of highly decorative apartments and houses in Paris.

Most of the Art Nouveau metro entrances are replicas, as the city destroyed many of the originals in an ill-advised move toward a more modern look in the mid 20th century.

ART NOUVEAU

PARIS, FRANCE

From the 1880s to 1914 an international artistic current developed under the name of Art Nouveau or Modern Style.

1900 marked the height of this art which characterised the Belle Epoque.

Forms inspired by Nature (plants, animals...), curves and arabesques all distinguished this original, colourful and richly decorated architecture. It proliferated in stone, metal, glass or ceramic.

The buildings of the Rue La Fontaine, close to the former village of Passy, or the “noodle” style of the metro entrances designed by Hector Guimard, are as famous as the floral decors of the magnificent stained glass in the department stores.

The expansion of Art Nouveau was accompanied by technical prowess linked to advances in metal construction: the Eiffel Tower sprang up to the height of 300 metres in 1889, and the Alexandre III Bridge straddled the Seine with a single arch in 1900.
